How much does an AI agent cost a small business?
October 23, 2026 · 5 min read · GrokDeploy
The price of an AI agent comes in a few parts: the subscription, the setup, and keeping it running. Here's each one in plain English, so you can budget before you buy.
The short answer
An AI agent for a small business has three costs. The monthly subscription to the AI tool itself. The setup, paid either in your own time or as a fee to someone who does it for you. And upkeep, the time it takes to keep the bot's instructions up to date as your business changes.
1. The subscription
A Grok Bot runs on a Grok plan. That fee is paid to Grok directly, not to us, and Grok sets the price. Plans change, so check Grok's own site for what's current. If the bot uses other apps, like a calendar or a booking tool, any fees for those are paid to those companies too.
2. The setup
This is where costs vary the most.
If you do it yourself, the cost is your time: picking the job, writing down the steps, setting up the bot, linking apps, and testing. Our guide How to set up a Grok Bot for your business walks through it.
If you hire help, ask for a fixed price tied to a clear list of jobs. Open-ended hourly work is hard to budget.
Our fixed prices, in USD:
- Starter, $799: 3 workflows, 1 discovery meeting
- Business, $1,499: 5 workflows, 3 meetings, plus help linking your other apps and a written guide to your bot
- Team, $2,999: 10 workflows, 8 meetings, plus one month of support
Full details are on Pricing.
3. Keeping it running
Once the bot works, upkeep is mostly small changes: a new step, a new kind of question, a rule that needs adjusting. Many owners handle this themselves. If you'd rather have help, our monthly support is $149 a month and can be added to any package.
How to keep the cost down
- Start with one or a few jobs, not the whole business.
- Write the job down before setup, so nobody pays to redo work.
- Pick the smallest package that covers the jobs you need.
- Make sure the bot account is in your name, so you're never paying to get it back.
Questions to ask before you pay anyone
- Is the price fixed, and what exactly does it cover?
- Who owns the bot account when the work is done?
- What fees are paid to other companies, and are they included?
- What happens after handoff if something needs changing?
- Do I sign off on how each job works before setup starts?
